Nachyn Choodu was born in 1978 in Balgazyn, in the Tangdy district of central Tuva. As a child, he learned throat singing, traditional instruments, and ancient songs from his older relatives. While attending the College of the Arts in Kyzyl he joined Tuva Ensemble. In 2004, he left the Ensemble and joined the Tuvan National Orchestra. Nachyn has toured Japan and Europe, and from 2008 to 2011 he was a member of the Tuvan throat singing group Alash. He performs regularly with his wife, Shonchalai Oorzhak-Choodu, and their duo won first prize at the 2008 Xöömei Symposium in Tuva. Both Nachyn and his wife have been named Merited Artists of Tuva.
