Sean Quirk on the Igil

Sean Quirk is the manager, producer and interpreter for the Tuvan throat singing group Alash. Born in Ohio (USA), Quirk developed a passion for Tuvan music after hearing a Huun-Huur-Tu CD while he was a student at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota (USA). He began studying xöömei and won a Fulbright fellowship to continue his studies in Tuva in 2003, where he met Alash. Quirk now makes his home in Tuva. He is a member of the Tuvan National Orchestra, and in 2008 he was named a Merited Artist of Tuva for his work on behalf of Tuvan music and culture.
